Five killed in lightning strike in Bihar

Five persons, including two minor girls, were killed when a thunderstorm struck north Bihar's Madhubani district today, police said.

While two persons were killed in Deep village under the jurisdiction of Jhannjharpur police station, a 10-year-old girl was killed in the neighbouring Harbhanga village, the police said.

All the three were killed when lightning struck them, the Station House Officer (SHO) of Jhannjharpur police station, Prem Lal Paswan, said.

In another incident, lightning claimed the life of a 45-year-old man in Satghara village under the jurisdiction of Babubarahi police station, a police officer said.

In the third incident, another 10-year-old girl was killed in Kamalpur village when lightening struck her in the early hours today, the SHO of Bheja police station, Angesh Kumar, said.

 

Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar has condoled the deaths caused during thunderstorm in various parts of the state and issued instructions for timely award of compensation to the next of kin of the deceased and proper treatment to those who have been injured, an official release in Patna said.

Three persons were killed when lightning struck them in Purnea district yesterday.
