Five killed in road accident in Kanpur

Five persons, including four children of a family were today killed and a woman injured when a horse-carriage in which they were travelling was hit by a speeding truck in Naubasta area here, police said.

The incident took place when six persons were going back to their home in Rajiv Vihar area after watching a mela, following which the speeding truck hit their horse-carriage, they said.

Neena (17), Puttu (9), Laddu (5) and Nitin (30) died on the spot, while Sanjana (10) and Babita (27) were admitted to Hallet hospital, police said.

Sanjana succumbed during her treatment at the hospital, they said.
 

The bodies have been sent for post-mortem, police said, adding efforts are being made to nab the absconding truck driver.
