The car, travelling from Guwahati to Lakhimpur, skidded off the road and fell into a ditch following a technical defect at Barangabari under Gohpur police station, the police said.
The victims hailed from Noonmati and Satgaon area of Guwahati and have been identified as Chandan Medhi, Biwswajit Medhi, Arpan Kalita, Dhrubajyoti and Dhiraj Burman.
The bodies have been sent for postmortem to the nearby Behali hospital, sources added.
