Five killed in road mishaps in Uttarakhand

Five persons, including a woman, were today killed and nine others injured in separate road accidents in Uttarakhand, officials said.

According to Uttarakhand State Disaster Mitigation and Management Centre officials, the first incident occurred near Basot village in Bikiyasain area of Almora district when a jeep fell into a ditch, killing a woman and two other persons on spot.

The officials said six persons were injured who were admitted to primary health centre (PHC) Bikiyasain.

The second incident took place on Saroth-Bhawan road near Pokhari village in Kandisaud area of Tehri district, when a jeep fell into a ditch and two passengers were killed.
 

Kandisaud Naib Tehsildar Jagat Singh Gairola, who rushed to the spot, said three persons had been injured in the accident, and were admitted to PHC Chinyalisaud in a serious condition.

The reasons behind the mishaps have not yet been ascertained.
