Five persons, including two women and a six-year-old girl, were killed and six others injured in an LPG cylinder explosion that damaged three houses at nearby Aataiyampatty today.

While a woman and her teenage son died on the spot, the body of a man was found under the debris of a nearby house, which was among three structures damaged in the blast, police said.

They said the explosion occurred after the woman tried to light the gas stove unaware of a leak in the cylinder.

Another woman and the girl succumbed to injuries in hospital, police said.

The injured have been hospitalised.
