Five labourers killed, eight others injured

At least five labourers were killed and eight others injured when a truck carrying them overturned on a hilly road in Rayagada district today, police said.

The mishap took place when the truck, carrying workers from a stone quarry, overturned and fell from a height after losing balance near Gorakhpur village in Tikiri police station area, Rayagada Superintendent of Police K Siva Subramani said.

While five labourers died on the spot, eight injured persons were taken to the district headquarter hospital for treatment, police said

One of the injured persons was later shifted to a hospital in Visakhapatnam after his condition deteriorated, police added.
