Five minor girls, including a Bangladeshi national, today escaped from a government-run women's home at Englishbazar here, an official said.

The girls, aged between 15 and 17, came down the wall of the two-storyed building from its roof using a rope and fled this morning, Additional District Magistrate R Vimala said.

The girls were desperate to return to their native places, Vimala said after a preliminary enquiry.

Seventy seven girls rescued from traffickers have been lodged in the 'Mahila Abas', she said.

All police stations in Malda district have been alerted to track the girls. A four-member enquiry committee has also been formed, she said.
