Five more stolen heritage furniture recovered

Five more heritage furniture designed by French architect Le Corbusier, stolen from Chandigarh College of Arts here last month, were recovered today from the forest area in Nahan of Himachal Pradesh.

On the information provided by two accused, Usha alias Sweety (38) and Shakila (32), five more heritage sofa chairs were recovered, police said.

The theft had taken place on January 19, days before the high-profile visit of French President Francois Hollande to Chandigarh.

On February 4, the two accused had surrendered before a Court here. They were taken in police remand on February 6, for one day and three broken locks and a chain were recovered from a 'nullah' in Leisure Valley Sector 10, Chandigarh.
 

The duo disclosed they stole 15 heritage chairs and one heritage table from the Arts College, police said, adding a case under Sections 457 (break-in) and 380 (theft) of the IPC has been registered in this connection.

On February 2, two junk dealers, Sunil Kumar and Faqir Chand, were arrested and 10 stolen heritage sofa chairs were recovered from them.
