They include three Class IV and two Class III employees.

Revenue Divisional Commissioner (RDC) Arvind Padhee has directed the Inspector of Schools to initiate legal action against them, official sources said today.

Padhee had recently conducted an inquiry into the fake caste certificate allegations and recommended action against the offenders, they said.

He has also directed the authorities concerned to initiate action against 10 other employees facing similar charges. They belong to Kandhamal district and are working in different offices in the state and Andhara Pradesh, the police said.

Kui Samaj Samanyaya Samiti (KSSS), a tribal outfit in Kandhamal district, had led an agitation against alleged fake caste certificates and claimed to have identified 976 offenders in the district.

"Not only are they getting jobs, but enjoying several other benefits by submitting fake tribal certificates," said a leader of the KSSS. He also criticised the slow pace of investigation.

The police had earlier arrested seven persons, working in different offices, in connection with fake caste certificate.

Around 85 cases were registered in different police stations in the district for forgery in caste certificate obtained by submitting fake documents, they said.

A senior police officer said three police officers were investigating the alleged fake certificate issue in the district.
