Five members of an Indian family, including three children, were killed in a tragic road accident in Oman, according to a media report today.

Abdul Wahab, a planner at Port Service in Salalah, his wife Saika Abdul Wahab and his three sons were killed when their car collided with another vehicle on Tuesday in Salalah in the Omani province of Dhofar.

The families hailed from Mumbai, the Times of Oman reported.

Two of the bodies were not in a condition to be repatriated so authorities have suggested that they be buried in Oman, said K S Mohammed Ali, a social worker and employee of Sultan Qaboos Hospital Salalah.

According to Major Said Al Badae from Royal Oman Police, a car and an SUV collided head-on in Duhoon area in Al Mazyouna. The mishap left one of the vehicles charred to ashes.

"Over speed and wrong overtaking is seen as the reason for the accident," the official added.
