Five members of a family, including two children, were charred and two others injured after their house caught fire in the wee hours, police said.

The deceased were identified as Amir Jan (70), his daughters Parveen and Rizwana (36) and Rizwana's two children, Banu (9) and Rahan (2), police said.

"The cause of the mishap is yet to be ascertained. There was a LPG cylinder burst but that happened much later after everything had been reduced to ashes. So that could not have caused the fire, it is the other way round. We are not ruling out murder. The case is being investigated," City Police Commissioner K L Sudhir said.

The two injured, including deceased Jan's wife, who sustained serious burns, have been admitted to government hospital here.
