Five on way to Saibaba temple killed, seven hurt in accident

Five persons were killed and seven others seriously injured when a container truck hit their van here while they were going to Shirdi to offer prayers at the Saibaba temple, police said today.

The van, carrying devotees from Telangana, was heading towards Shirdi from Nagarsool railway station in Yeola taluka of Nashik when the speeding truck coming from the opposite direction collided with it at Achalgaon phata on Yeola- Kopargaon road yesterday, they said.

Out of the five deceased, four were identified as van driver Shivaji Manjare (35), Chejramma Raghvalu (55), Mangamma Gundapuri (53) and Vyankamayya Kalikattam (34).

The seven injured persons were admitted to Yeola rural hospital.
 

The truck driver fled after the mishap, police said.
