Five persons were today crushed to death by a speeding truck at three different places along National Highway-2 also known as the Grand Trunk Road under Aaamas police station of Bihar's naxal-infested Gaya district.

Gaya City SP Rakesh Kumar said the incident happened when the driver of the vehicle lost control and crushed Banshi Rikyasu (50) and Anuj Kumar(18) at Simri village under Aamas police station area.

The vehicle fled from the spot and again hit two people - Bodh Rikyasu (25 and Jugnu Mian (30) at Budhaul village a few kilometres away, the SP said. Both died on the spot.

The driver again managed to flee with the truck and hit another person identified as Krishna Swarnkar (35) at Bishunpur village, crushing him to death. His son was also seriously injured in the incident.

Kumar said the driver managed to escape with the vehicle yet again and entered the neighbouring Aurangabad district, but his luck ran out when the truck overturned at a place under Obra police station.

The driver and the cleaner of the truck have been arrested and are being interrogated by the police.

Meanwhile, irate villagers blocked the busy NH 2 for around an hour and demanded compensation for the victims. The blockade was lifted after assurances from senior district officials.
