Five persons drown in Lakshadweep

Five persons, including two children, drowned when the boat in which they were travelling capsized following engine failure near Kadmat island in Lakshadweep today.

Lakshadweep Police said 27 passengers and two crew members of the boat were rescued by police personnel.

Investigations are on, but prima facie the boat, coming from Amini to Kadmat island, developed engine failure and went out of control and capsized, they said.

The rescued persons were taken to a hospital and discharged after first aid.
