Five police personnel injured in mob attack at Malda village

Five police personnel were injured when their vehicles were attacked allegedly by a mob during a special police drive to apprehend criminals at a village in Malda district.

The five injured belonged to a posse of 15 police personnel who went to Kumarganj village, 40 km from here, in the Pukuria police station area in two jeeps last night to arrest a husband-wife duo as part of the special drive, police said.

When the police personnel were returning after arresting the couple, their jeeps were attacked allegedly by the residents of the village in an apparent attempt to free the arrested. The husband managed to escape.
 

Five policemen, including two assistant sub-inspectors and two constables, suffered head injuries in brickbatting. They were admitted to the Malda Medical College and Hospital, the police said.

The condition of the five is now stable, according to hospital authorities.
