Five Armed Reserve Police officials have been placed under suspension on charges of "careless in their duties", police said today.
Superintendent of police Mayilvaganan said a building for coastal security force was being built at Thondi for which people of the area had been objecting its construction.
Several police had been deployed there for security. In this situation. However, some unidentified persons had damaged the rods of the 15 pillars of the building.
After an inquiry, it was found that five police personnel were doing work carelessly, following which they were suspended.
