Five policemen injured

Five policemen were injured when a mob consisting of alleged cattle smugglers pelted stones on them in Dhanapur police station area here, police said today.

On a tip off, police rushed to Kawai-Paharpur village in search of cattle smugglers where they intercepted two pickup vans moving on the road yesterday, police said.

On seeing the police, the drivers of the vans parked them on the roadside and fled and after sometime returned with a large number of people who started pelting stones in which five policemen were injured and a police jeep was damaged.

Those injured included two Sub-Inspectors, Suresh Yadav and Chote Ram, and three constables identified as Sumit, Bhonu Yadav and one other, Circle Officer (Sakaldiha), Shyam Dev said.
 

The two pickup vans have been seized and an FIR is being registered, he added.
