Fourteen persons, including five policemen, were injured when tribal people resisted being evicted from land belonging to a minority trust and the state government in Bihar's Purnia district today, a police officer said.
The tribal people attacked the policemen and took two of them hostage when they were being evicted in Parora village under Kirtyanand police station area, Superintendent of Police Ajit Kumar Satyarthi said.
The tribals set fire to their huts to prevent the eviction.
Nine tribals and five policemen were injured in the clash, he said.
The two policemen held hostage for some hours were rescued, he said.
The injured tribals were arrested and hospitalised, Satyarthi said.
The tribals had occupied 80 acre land of the Milia Educational Trust and 20 acre belonging to the state government on August 15, 2011, and had built huts, Satyarthi said.
Policemen were deployed in the village to maintain law and order, the SP said.
