Five-time MLA Rajpati Devi passes away

Rajpati Devi, a five-time Congress MLA from Gauriganj, passed away due to age-related ailments at a hospital in Kanpur.

Devi, 82, has been hospitalised in the hospital for the past one month and she passed away yesterday.

People from different walks of life paid tributes to Devi at her residence in Gauriganj.

Rajpati was first time elected in 1969 on Congress ticket and won.

Second time she won in 1974 and latershe retained the same seat three times from 1980 to 1991.

Rajpati's husband Giriraj Singh was a freedom fighter and was a one-timeMLA from Gauriganj and MP from Sultanpur. He was close to Gandhi family.
 

Devi is survived by two sons.
