Five tourists from AP killed, 10 injured in TN accident

A speeding lorry hit a stationary bus from the back, killing five passengers from Andhra Pradesh who had stepped off and were standing next to the bus, police here said today.

Ten people were injured, some of them seriously, in the accident that took place on the national highway in Palayamkottai in this district.

The group was travelling from Guntur district in Andhra Pradesh to Kanyakumari. The driver halted the bus in the morning to enable some passengers to answer nature's call.

The lorry came speeding when five of them were standing on the road, hitting them and the bus. The five, including two women, were killed on the spot, an official said.
 

All the injured were admitted to Tirunelveli Medical College Hospital. The condition of some of them was serious, police said.
