Five tourists killed, two others injured in road accident

Five tourists were killed and two others injured in a road accident in Sikkim's East district, police said on Monday.

The tourists, hailing from Hooghly in West Bengal were returning to the state capital from Tsomgo Lake-Baba Mandir when a private vehicle carrying them lost control and fell down 400 metre down the Jawaharlal Nehru Road near 7th Mile on Sunday evening, police said.

While four tourists died on the spot, another succumbed to injuries at a hospital, they said, adding two injured persons, including the driver of the vehicle were undergoing treatment at STNM hospital.

The victims have been identified as Kakila Bose (42), Snehasish Bose (58), Soma Kar (32), Sandip Kar (44) and Subhajit Bose (26), police said.
