Five Bosnian coal miners were killed after an earthquake triggered a gas explosion and tunnel cave-in, stranding their crew for 20 hours, a leader of their union said today.

"Twenty-nine (trapped miners) came out, but unfortunately five did not survive," Sinan Husic said on national television, without describing how and when the men had died.

Husic said rescue teams were still inside the Raspotocje mine in the central town of Zenica, which was hit yesterday by a 3.5-magnitude quake.
