Five trucks and a machine charred in fire

Five trucks and a JCB machine of a transport company were destroyed in a fire caused by a short circuit in Kanpur, fire officials today said.

S K Kushwaha, Chief Fire Engineer of the area said the polythene cover on the top of a truck, parked alongside the street in Damodar area, caught sparks from the power lines crossing it above yesterday night. The blaze soon spread and swallowed five trucks and a JCB machine.

The vehicles belonged to Surendra Gupta who owns a transport company at Naubasta here, he said.

The officer said seven fire brigades were rushed to the spot and the flames could be doused only by early morning today. No casualty has been reported in the incident.
 

According to the initial estimates, damage worth lakhs of rupees was done in the fire. Fire and police departments have started an investigation into the matter.
