Five women held for smuggling ganja

Five women were arrested for allegedly smuggling cannabis (ganja) from a house at Elamanchili town in Vizag district, police said today.

The police also seized 80 kg of dry ganja and Rs. 50,000 in cash from them in the last night swoop.

The women were identified as A ajkumari and Fancy Shanmukha Sundari from Chennai, N. Rajitha from Warangal, B Chirulakshmi from Rolugunta mandal of Vizag area and Renu Pandey from New Delhi, said Elamanchili police station inspector K Venkata Rao.

He said the women had taken the house on rent around 8 weeks ago, and that one of them was apprehended by police in Vizag a few weeks back.
 

The gang procured the ganja from traders at Rolugunta area and used to smuggle the stuff to Chennai and Delhi.

They were booked under various sections of NDPS Act, he added.
