A five-year-old girl was allegedly molested by her neighbour in southwest Delhi's Dwarka subcity, police said today.

The accused, identified as Surjeet (25), has been booked under relevant sections of IPC and Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, and arrested immediately, said a senior police official.

According to the police, the accused works as a driver and lives in the same colony in Dwarka north where the victim lives with her family. Finding the girl alone at her residence last evening, the accused allegedly molested her and tried to force himself upon her.

After the incident, he fled from the spot, fearing that the victim's mother had come back home. He also allegedly threatening the girl of dire consequences if she reported the matter to anyone.

When the victim's mother returned, she found the girl in a traumatised state. After trying for hours, the woman managed to coax her daughter into narrating her ordeal following which she reported the matter to police.

The girl was rushed to a hospital and then given counselling by an NGO in the presence of her mother.

Meanwhile, a police team was rushed to the locality and Surjeet arrested from his house, the senior official added.
