The nephew of senior Congress leader Gurudas Kamat was arrested today and subsequently released on bail for allegedly mowing down a five-year-old girl in suburban Goregaon.
Raunak Desai (19) was granted bail by a local court on the bond of Rs 25,000, police said.
The teenage son of ex-Congress corporator Sameer Desai allegedly ran over the minor, identified as Lado Gupta, last night near Hypercity mall in suburban Goregaon.
The girl was crossing the road when she was hit, police said.
Following the accident, Raunak surrendered before police who placed him under arrest.
A case has been registered against him under section 304-A (causing death by negligence) of the IPC.
Meanwhile, preliminary report of the medical test conducted on Raunak said that he was not drunk at the time of the mishap. The postmortem report of the girl is awaited.
