Five persons have been arrested in connection with the 'hoax' hartal call on April 16, police said today.
A message had spread via social media platforms that a state-wide hartal against the Kathua incident would be observed on Monday, urging people to join the protest.
They were nabbed from Kollam and Thiruvananthapuram districts by a special investigation team from Malappuram, they said.
They were arrested under various sections of IPC and The Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act Act, for instigating people through the hoax call to protest the Kathua rape and murder, police said.
""The 'hoax' hartal call was made through a WhatsApp group "Voice of the Youth", police said.
Hundreds of persons were taken into custody in various places of the state for blocking public transport buses, forcibly downing shutters of shops and pelting stones at vehicles in the name of hartal.
