Complying with a Madras High Court order, banners and cut-outs on busy Avanashi Road here and in the City Corporation limits, are being removed.

The court had given the order yesterday on a petition by a DMK MLA following the death of a software engineer after he hit a wooden structure erected on a main road here recently.

Corporation Commissioner Dr K Vijayakarthikeyan asked officials to monitor the removal of banners, flex boards and cut-outs, particularly those put up in connection with late AIADMK founder M G Ramachandran's Centenary celebrations scheduled here on December 3, police said.

The workers removed hundreds of banners and supporting wood structures on the road, they added.

Apart from banners put up by political parties, commercial banners and advertisement hoardings are also being removed, police said.

DMK MLA N Karthick had filed a petition in the High Court seeking removal of the structures, after the death of the software engineer, Raghupathy, based on which the court gave its directive.
