The flood situation in West Bengal's Jalpaiguri township remained grim today with almost the entire area submerged under rain water and more than two lakh people affected.

Official sources said here that more than 25 municipal corporation ward areas of the township have been completely submerged as rain water entered almost every household forcing people to take shelter on embankments.

Due to lack of proper drainage system, the rain water engulfed a vast tract of area as the adjoining Korola river remained swollen.

The situation was worse in the areas of Mahamayapur, Panjapara, Indira locality, Vivekananda colony and Goshala, sources said.

In Goshala, the affected people blocked roads demanding proper rehabilitation and drainage system.

The district administration is monitoring the situation.
