At least 166 people have been killed and nearly 11 lakh others displaced in floods triggered by monsoon rains in Pakistan as authorities struggled to rehabilitate and rescue the affected population.

The seasonal rains have caused floods in major rivers of the country.

Another 128 were injured in different regions due to accident caused by floods and rains.

At least 10,87,025 people have been displaced due to floods which damaged over 8,000 houses in the country.

The army and civilian agencies are racing to provide relief goods to the displaced people and shifting to safer place to the people facing threat of floods.

More than 41 tonnes of food and over 71,000 tents have been distributed among the people hit by floods.

The intensity of the rains have decreased but there is prediction of more rainfall in coming week.

Monsoon rains usually start in Pakistan in mid-July and continue until the end of August.

The monsoon last year killed nearly 400 and inundated thousands of acres of farmland.
