Floral tributes paid to Gandhi on his 146th birth anniversary

: Lt Governor of Puducherry Lt General (retired) A K Singh, accompanied by Chief Minister N Rangasamy, Speaker V Sabapathy, Ministers and legislators paid floral tributes at the statute of Mahatma Gandhi on his 146th birth anniversary today.

Member of Parliament R Radhakrishnan, Chief Secretary Manoj Parida, top police officials, Secretaries and freedom fighters were among those who were present at the venue.

Representatives of Hindu, Christian and Islamic religions presented excerpts from their resepective religious books highlighting the importance of non-violence and love for mankind as preached and practised by Gandhi.

Patriotic songs were also sung by teachers of Bharathiar Palkalaikoodam (a multi-disciplinary fine arts institution of Puducherry government).
 

Workers f the opposition Congress, led by party president A Namassivayam, MLA, garlanded the statue and paid tributes to Gandhi.

President of the Puducherry State committee of BJP M Visweswaran, MLA, garlanded the statue.

The management of Pondicherry University held special programmes on the occasion on the University premises.

Director of JIPMER Dr S C Parija launched the online registration by patients for services at the hospital today.
