Two FM radio channels have been launched in Central Jail Nos. 2 and 3 in Tihar for entertainment of prison inmates.

The two radio channels were launched yesterday by Vimlaa Mehra, the Director General (Prisons).

The radio channels, along with an e-library in the Central Jail No. 2, was launched in collaboration with the Care Today Foundation for entertainment of prison inmates.

The radio channels will help prisoners engage in positive activities. Important informations are now being disseminated to the prisoners through them and this is also a major source of entertainment. The inmates are also being trained in radio jockeying.

"The FM stations have been established to meet the twin objectives of entertainment and training of prisoners as Radio Jockey (RJ). The prisoners can engage themselves in creative activities and also get trained as RJ," said a prison official.

If prisoners want to listen to their favourite songs, they would have to send their request in advance to the RJs so that these may be aired, the official added.
