Jharkhand High Court today granted bail to disqualified JD(U) MP Jagdish Sharma who is lodged in jail in a case of fraudulent withdrawal of Rs 1.16 crore from Godda Treasury in the 1990s.
The bench of Justice R R Prasad sanctioned his bail, in RC 34 A/96 fodder scam case, on the grounds that he had earlier got bail from the Supreme Court in the RC20A/96 case on January 13.
Sharma was sentenced to four years rigorous imprisonment and a fine of Rs four lakh by the special CBI court of Sitaram Prasad on January 24 along with 18 others in the case, pertaining to fraudulent withdrawal of Rs 1.16 crore from Godda Treasury in the 1990s.
On October 3 last year, Sharma, former Bihar Chief Ministers Lalu Prasad and Jagannath Mishra and 42 others were convicted in the RC20 A/96, pertaining to fraudulent withdrawal of Rs 37.7 crore from Chaibasa treasury when the RJD was ruling the undivided Bihar in the 1990s.
Sharma and Yadav lost their Lok Sabha seats following the conviction and sentence of four and five years RI respectively.
A total of 46 out of 53 fodder cases ended in convictions so far.
Sharma, who got bail from the Supreme Court in the first case on January 13, has been convicted in two separate fodder cases and got the same punishment.
