Fog envelops Punjab, Haryana, normal life out of gear

A thick blanket of fog over most parts of Punjab, Haryana and Chandigarh today threw normal life out of gear affecting the air, rail and road traffic with mercury plunging to up to two notches below normal at Amritsar, Hisar and Narnaul.

Dense fog blinded the region reducing the visibility to just few metres forcing several trains to run behind schedule, officials said, adding that motorists had to move on snails pace due to low visibility.

The MeT office said here that barring Amritsar, the entire Punjab and Haryana remained engulfed under dense fog.

Meanwhile, the minimum temperatures in most parts of Punjab and Haryana hovered between two degrees Celsius below normal to five notches above normal.
 

In the plains of Punjab and Haryana, Amritsar was the coldest place with a low of 0.7 degrees Celsius, which was two notches below normal.

Besides, Hisar and Narnaul had a low of 31. Degrees Celsius and 3.5 degrees Celsius respectively which was two notches each below normal.

Among other places, Bhiwani brave a low of 4.4 degrees Celsius followed by 8.1 degrees Celsius at Ludhiana, two notches above normal, 9.2 degrees Celsius at Patiala, three notches above normal and 10.4 degrees Celsius each at Chandigarh and Ambala, five and four degrees Celsius respectively above normal.

Chandigarh received 0.2 mm rainfall, the MeT office said.

The MeT office predicted low temperatures in the region which will also face foggy conditions during the next 24 hours.
