"Sumit alias Dheela, a resident of Bharona village in Haryana's Sonepat district, was arrested yesterday from near Ghitorni metro station when he came to meet his associate," DCP (South District) Chhaya Sharma said.

A country made pistol and a live cartridge were recovered from his possession, police said.

The 29-year-old was shot dead at point blank range on the Haridwar-Dehradun highway on May 29. Two assailants had opened fire when she was having dinner at a popular dhaba near Haridwar along with a team of musicians. The group had gone to Haridwar to take part in a competition.

During investigation, it came to light that the singer had relation with a Rohtak-based youth Sandeep, police said.

In June, Sandeep was arrested. During interrogation, he told police that he and Chaudhary were having an affair. However, their relation turned sour following which the singer lodged a rape case against him. The case was settled later on.

Apprehending that Chaudhary was planning to kill him, Sandeep hired sharpshooter Sumit and paid an advance amount of Rs two lakh to kill her.
