Assam Governor Banwarilal Purohit today urged the teaching fraternity on the eve of Teachers' Day to pay rich tributes to noted philosopher and statesman Dr Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan and emulate his ideals for building a society of his dreams.
"As a mark of tribute to the great contribution made by teachers to our society, we celebrate Teachers' Day on the birth anniversary of Dr Radhakrishnan and we should pay our reverence to him by emulating his ideals for building a society of his dreams," the Governor said in a message here.
Teachers are pillars on which the entire society hinges and so the quality of a society to a great extent depends on our teachers, he added.
"On the occasion of Teachers' Day, besides paying my deep sense of gratitude to the selfless service of the teachers, I appeal to the teaching fraternity to take the responsibility of building our society based on high moral grounds and a strong feeling for mutual co-existence,'', the Governor added.
