Sarath Fonseka, former Sri Lankan army chief who led the army in the war against the LTTE here today rubbished a media report that a senior LTTE leader had committed suicide.
"The war ended at 10:30 A.M on May 19, 2009. We found the dead bodies of over 100 senior LTTE cadres at the end of the battle.
"Among them were the dead bodies of Prabakaran and Soosai with gun shot injuries", Fonseka now the leader of the Democratic Party told reporters here.
He was responding to an Tamil website report that said Soosai alias Thillaiambalam Sivanesan, the leader of the LTTE's deadly sea Tiger force, had committed suicide by swallowing a cyanide capsule and then turning his own gun against him.
The web report said that Soosai had come under pressure as the Sri Lanka Army had created a impregnable defence around the beleagured LTTE by then.
"Soosai's wife and children had given themselves up by then. They had walked into government controlled area and come under military care," Fonseka said.
His wife and children are currently under government care in protective detention.
Soosai led several ferocious attacks against the Sri Lanka Navy resources during the LTTE's decades old conflict.
His Sea Tigers were able to control the north and eastern coastline with devastating affect.
