Food poisoning: GSHRC issues notices to govt, jail authorities

The Goa State Human Rights Commission (GSHRC) today issued notices to the state government and authorities of two jails in connection with food poisoning, which left a prisoner dead and many inmates affected.

The notices were issued to the State Chief Secretary, State Home Secretary, Inspector General of Prisons, Superintendents of both the jails - Central Jail and Mapusa sub-jail, Goa Medical College and Mapusa district hospital, GHSRC sources said.

GSHRC Chairperson P K Mishra and member A D Salkar have issued the notices which are returnable by June 21, 2013.

The commission has quoted a report from a local newspaper and sought the clarification from these agencies.
 

Murder convict Mahadev Gaonkar died while more than hundred prisoners took ill due to food poisoning after having dinner allegedly cooked by inmates at Central Jail at Aguada and Mapusa sub-jail, located within 10 kms of each other, on Friday.
