Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi today said a fool-proof security system will be put in place for the 12th South Asian Games here starting from February five.

"Government has arranged a fool-proof security system for the sports persons as well as the spectators for the smooth conduct of the games," Gogoi said in a statement.

So far as infrastructural preparedness is concerned, he said, finishing touches are being given and if there is any deficiency, last minute steps are being taken to plug them.

The Chief Minister's statement came following the review meeting he had yesterday with army, police, para-military forces, intelligence agencies and sports administrators to discuss preparations including security.

All the Chefs de Mission in-charge of running the games expressed their satisfaction over the facilities put in place, the statement said.

Gogoi said the Union Sports Ministry has appreciated "the excellent work undertaken by the state government officials in preparing the stage for the prestigious 12th South Asian Games within a limited period".

The Chief Minister has instructed all the Departments to showcase the rich cultural heritage of Assam along with its handicrafts, tourism potentials and refreshing beauty.

Instructions were also given to take care of all logistical issues, transportation, communication, accommodation, etc, Gogoi said.

Directions were given to the Transport Department, PWD, Health, Public Health Engineering to take care of the 4400 athletes who will be converging in Guwahati for the games.

Gogoi appealed the people of Assam to receive the sports persons and administrators coming from eight countries to spread camaraderie and forge friendly relations so that they can cherish the warm hospitality of the state later on.
