Footballer dies due to dengue

A 29-year-old football player, who represented Indian team in 2010 that won gold medal in the South Asian games, died of dengue during her treatment here.

Poonam was admitted a week ago and died during her treatment yesterday at a private hospital, her family said.

She was cremated at Manikarnika ghat today, they said.

The mortal remains were carried to Vivek Singh Mini Stadium in Shivpur in the morning where people paid their last tributes after which the cremation took place at Manikarnika ghat.
