Foreign Exchange Earnings through tourism stands at Rs 40k Cr

Foreign exchange earnings through tourism in India stood at Rs 40,411 crore in the first three months of 2016, Lok Sabha was informed today.

Tourism Minister Mahesh Sharma said the foreign exchange earnings through tourism was Rs 1,35,193 crore in 2015 and Rs 1,23,320 crore in 2014.

Sharma said during Question Hour that a total of 2.25 crore foreign tourists visited India in 2014, 1.99 crore in 2013 and 1.82 crore tourists in 2012.

The highest number of 46.57 lakh tourists visited Tamil Nadu in 2014, followed by 43.89 lakh tourists in Maharashtra and 29.09 lakh tourists in Uttar Pradesh that year.
