Foreign and Indian currencies worth Rs 72.5 lakhs were seized at the international airport here today in two different cases, a top customs official said.

The officers of Air Intelligence Unit effected the seizures of currency equivalent to Rs 72.5 lakh after intercepting the passengers in Customs area.

Customs Commissioner Sumit Kumar said in both the cases the passegers were Kasargod natives, who were bound for Dubai.

The currencies were 'cleverly' concealed in specially manufactured pockets of the checked-in and hand baggage carried by them, he said in a release.

The passengers on interrogation confessed that the currencies were concealed inside their checked-in and hand baggage.

Further investigation is in progress, Kumar said.
