Foreign national held for bid to smuggle gold ornaments

A Malaysian national was arrested for allegedly trying to smuggle over two kg of gold ornaments, worth Rs 56 lakh, from the international airport here, airport sources said today.

The accused, identified as Kutti Appan, was arrested by the customs officials after it was found that he had concealed the ornaments in his suitcase, the sources said.

The 41-year-old man landed here from Kuala Lumpur on a Tiger Airlines flight at around 1.30 AM, they said.

A case has been registered in this connection, they added.
