The state forest department has dismantled two saw mills which were set up in violation of forest rules in Jammu district.

A team of forest officials headed by Range Officer Jindrah, Ghulam Qadir, under the supervision of Divisional Forest Officer, Jammu, today dismantled two secondary saw mills at Kah Pota Jindrah village, which were operating illegally, a forest department official said.

As per the directions of Supreme Court of India and the SRO 103 of 2012, Jammu and Kashmir Wood based (saw mills, veneer and plywood) industries (Registration and Regulation) Rules, 2012, no primary and secondary saw mill can be allowed to operate within 8 km and 3 km respectively from the demarcated forest, he said.

In this case, the owner of the saw mills had violated the SRO-103 and had set them up illegally and accordingly these were dismantled and their parts were seized by the team, he said.

The confiscation proceedings in the authorised Court have been initiated, he said.
