: A seven-year-old leopard which strayed into residential areas near the railway station here and injured three persons has been captured by forest department personnel.

The animal was caught around 10-30 PM last night after it was tranquilised by team of forest department personnel.

The feline was first sighted at a bush near Kasanakotta railway track, a densely populated residential area.

Police, Fire and Rescue Service and officials of other departments supported the operation that began around 8.30 PM, Wayanad Wildlife veterinarian, Arun Zackariah said.

Officials imposed restrictions on people's movement in the area as the presence of a large number of onlookers hampered the operation, he said.

Railway authorities also directed loco pilots to slow down trains while passing through the area.

The animal will be transported to Neyyar Captive Wildlife Sanctuary near Thiruvananthapuram later in the day.
