The CBI today filed in the Himachal Pradesh High Court the first status report in the case of forest guard Hoshiar Singh's death, apprising it of the status of investigation.

The high court perused the report and asked the CBI to keep it informed about the progress in the case from time to time.

Singh was posted in Katanda forest beat in Mandi district and his semi-naked body was found hanging from a tree upside down on June 9.

He had left behind a suicide note and the police also seized his diary in which he had named some people allegedly involved in illicit felling of trees and the material also mentioned that Singh also feared threat to life.

The policeprobe, supplemented for forensic evidence, confirmed that it was a case of suicide but the people refused to buy the theory.

After the public outcry, the case was referred to the CID which also termed the death as suicide. The high court then handed over the case to the CBI on September 13.

After preliminary investigation, the central agency filed three separate FIRs in the case and informed the court about the status of probe.
