Goon, who hails from Barak valley, said the mafia were being helped by a section of politicians and Hawaithang and Dholai in Cachar, Gharmoora range in Hailakandi, Daholia, Cheragi and Patharia in Karimganj are being denuded of their forest cover.
AIUDF Vice President Muqtadir Chowdhury said that 31 sq km stretch of forests in Patharia have been illegally and forcefully occupied.
He identified the areas as extending from pillar 1377 to sub pillar 6 that includes Satragul, Sonatala and Dhubri and further extends to Adamtila parallel to Bangladesh border.
