: Forest Department today urged the public not to venture deep into the forest to collect wood as there was the danger of being attacked by elephants.

Ramaraj, Forest Ranger, Thalamalai forest area in Sathyamangalam Tiger Reserve, said a 65-year-old man had been trampled to death by an elephant two days back. His body was recovered only on Monday, he said.

Since movement of wild animals was very high in the area, villagers should not go deep into the forests, he said.

Meanwhile, the decomposed body of an aged person was recovered today from Kundry forest area in Kadambur range. Forest personnel suspect that leopards or tigers might have attacked and killed him.

The identity of the person has not yet been established, police said.
