A 59-year-old forest ranger, who was part of team formed to catch a panther in Pali district, was today injured in an attack by the feline.

The panther bit forest ranger Mohan Singh on his left hand. Singh's condition is stable, Deputy Conservator of Forests Pali Mordwaj Singh told PTI.

The incident occurred in Jhadhli Manpura village, where the three-year-old big cat killed a cow last night and climbed up a tree.

Acting on the information provided by the villagers, a team was sent to capture the animal.

"We have tranquilised the panther and sent it to Jodhpur," said Singh.
