The Jammu and Kashmir forest department today seized the equipment and timber and logs of two illegal saw mills operating in Akhnoor area of Jammu district.
"The saw mills owned and operated by Palli Ram and Joginder Lal located at Nardi Wala Tehsil Akhnoor were dismantled by the field staff of Jammu Forest Division," an official spokesman said.
He said that these saw mills were functioning illegally in violation of the saw mills rules.
"There was resistance from the owners of the illegal saw mills but the situation was handled and the parts of saw mill - wheel, motor, saw band, timber and logs were seized and brought to Forest Complex Gladni Jammu" he said
He said that 'The Forest Offence Report (FOR)' has been registered against owners of the illegal saw mills for violation of various sections of J&K Forest Act.
He said that the dismantling of the illegal saw mills will continue in the division and all Range Officers have been directed to carry out similar operations within their jurisdiction.
